Director of Communications

HCAN is hiring a full-time Director of Communications, a talented communications and marketing professional with a demonstrated history of engaging diverse audiences in advocacy and brand awareness, and possesses a deep understanding of the state/local media landscape.

The Director will:

    • Lead the Communications Team and oversee the team’s goals, timeline, and activities.
    • Develop, implement, and oversee a strategic communications and marketing plan to advance organizational objectives.
    • Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across strategies and tactics.
    • Oversee collaborative planning with internal teams and external partners to develop campaign strategies and tactics for issue areas.
    • Oversee development of strategic communication and marketing planning, including across earned media, editorial, publications, research, organizational narrative/messaging, digital marketing, social media, stakeholder engagement, etc.
    • Respond to emerging communication/marketing needs and issues in a timely manner.
    • Communicate and collaborate effectively with the senior leadership team and staff to provide information and consult across strategic communication and marketing needs.
    • Establish and manage effective cross-team relationships with internal and external partners to identify communication/marketing goals, target audiences, and timely opportunities to advance collective priorities.
    • Oversee media/communications projects to ensure timely completion of goals, objectives, outcomes, activities, and expenditures.
    • Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.

 

The Director of Communications leads the Communications Team, which consists of a Communications Strategist and interns/volunteers. The Director is a member of the senior leadership team.

The Director is an experienced communications and marketing professional who works collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to develop and implement a strategic communications/marketing plan that aligns with HCAN’s mission, values, and priorities. They are firmly grounded in anti-racist principles; have exceptional written/verbal communication skills; have a deep understanding of Hawaiʻi and the local media landscape; have the capacity to inspire action; and welcome the opportunity to be a thought partner and team member with a small and exceptional staff.

Salary range: $80,000-$88,000/year. This is an exempt, full-time position.
