Director of Communications

HCAN is hiring a full-time Director of Communications, a talented communications and marketing professional with a demonstrated history of engaging diverse audiences in advocacy and brand awareness, and possesses a deep understanding of the state/local media landscape.

The Director will:

    • Develop, execute, and oversee a comprehensive strategic communications and marketing plan to advance organizational objectives.
    • Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across strategies and tactics.
    • Oversee collaborative planning with internal teams to develop campaign communication/marketing strategies and tactics for programs, policy, and communications efforts and products.
    • Develop and execute traditional and social media campaigns and regular communication efforts.
    • Ensure that all public relations and marketing efforts are practical, brand-consistent, data-informed, accessible (disability- and English Language Learner-friendly), and culturally relevant.
    • In partnership with organizational leadership, develops and executes a donor and member communications plan.
    • Ensure that member, stakeholder, and donor data are captured and aligned to strengthen development and membership efforts.
    • Drive participants to members/donor conversion efforts.
    • Supervise units' staff, including fellows, practicum students, and interns.
    • In partnership with leadership, recruit and manage communications, social media ambassadors, interns, and communication-related volunteers.
    • Support HCAN Speaks with special projects and policy communications
    • Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.

 

The Director of Communications leads the Communications Team, which consists of a Communications Strategist and interns/volunteers. The Director is a member of the senior leadership team.

The Director is an experienced communications and marketing professional who works collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to develop and implement a strategic communications/marketing plan that aligns with HCAN’s mission, values, and priorities. They are firmly grounded in anti-racist principles; have exceptional written/verbal communication skills; have a deep understanding of Hawaiʻi and the local media landscape; have the capacity to inspire action; and welcome the opportunity to be a thought partner and team member with a small and exceptional staff.

Salary range: $75,000 - $90,000. This is an exempt, full-time position.
