Director of Family Engagement and Training

HCAN is hiring a full-time Director of Family Engagement and Training, an experienced community leader who is passionate about building family leadership, voice, and power. The Director will:

  • Provide leadership for HCAN’s comprehensive family engagement, community organizing, and training efforts.
  • Lead a team with passion and motivation toward structural change centered on power, relationships, movement-building, and racial equity.
  • Engage in strategic planning, program management and community engagement.

The Director should be firmly grounded in anti-racist theory; have strong training, management, and community organizing expertise; be excited at the prospect of growing a team; and welcome the opportunity to be a thought partner and team member to a small but exceptional staff. The Director is an effective communicator, can build relationships with ease, is passionate about equity, and has a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a group.

The Director will bring a deep understanding of grassroots leadership development and power-building, and an ability to lead strategic issue campaigns that ensure the voices of those most impacted by systemic inequities are at the center of solutions.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Comfortable in an extremely fast-paced and dynamic environment and a self-starter who has excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated to investing in the leadership of their team, creative, results-oriented, and eager to operationalize transformative organizing of families.

About HCAN: Hawaiʻi Children’s Action Network (HCAN) is an independent, nonpartisan children’s policy and advocacy non-profit organization. Our mission is to build a unified voice educating and advocating for Hawaiʻi’s children. HCAN engages, educates, empowers and mobilizes families, community leaders, and policy makers to improve the health, education, safety, economic security and development of Hawaiʻi’s children. We provide information on child well-being, stimulate dialogue on children's issues, and promote accountability and action.

Salary range: $65,000-$75,000/year. This is an exempt, full-time position.
