Learn how to help parents file taxes for free, and get free tax filing assistance, so they can get important cash benefits like the Child Tax Credit. This is especially important for those who don’t normally file taxes. This virtual training by Code For America is specially organized for Hawaiʻi organizations.
The only way for families to access certain benefits, like the Child Tax Credit, is to file a tax return. These benefits can be significant — for example, this year, the Child Tax Credit is worth up to $3,600 per child under age 6 and $3,000 per child age 6-17.
Through this training, you’ll learn to help families use simplified tax filing portals like GetYourRefund.org/HI, which Code for America launched to give more families access to the Child Tax Credit and other tax benefits, like the Earned Income Tax Credit. This is the only online, mobile-friendly application connecting tax filers with free, IRS-certified tax help.
