Business Operations Manager

Hawaiʻi Children’s Action Network (HCAN) is hiring a Business Operations Manager, a trusted operations professional who serves as the primary internal point of contact for accounting, human resources, and vendors while ensuring effective and compliant organizational systems.

This is an exempt position, part-time preferred with full-time availability, and reports to HCAN’s Deputy Director.

The Business Operations Manager will: 
  • Serves as the day-to-day liaison with the external accounting team, ensuring timely communication, accurate reporting, and smooth workflow.
  • Support the Executive Director in preparing and monitoring programmatic budgets and ensuring organizational financial health.
  • Support the Deputy Director with grant monitoring and compliance efforts.
  • Review monthly financial statements, flag discrepancies, and coordinate corrections with the accounting team.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and compliance documentation.
  • Track accounts payable/receivable and ensure the timely submission of invoices, receipts, and reimbursement requests.
  • Maintain organizational records, contracts, and administrative systems.
  • Support HR-related processes such as onboarding paperwork, timesheet collection, payroll processing, and benefits coordination (as applicable).
  • Manage vendor relationships and service agreements.
  • Assist with financial and human resource policy updates, internal procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate insurance renewals, registrations, and other operational filings.
  • Explore emerging technology and resources to optimize functions.
  • Prepare financial and administrative materials for board meetings as needed.
  • Provide logistical support for organizational planning, retreats, and special projects.
 
The Business Operations Manager plays a critical role in supporting HCAN’s mission by stewarding the organization’s administrative and financial systems to ensure they are smooth, compliant, and efficient. Working collaboratively with internal teams and serving as the primary internal point of contact for external accounting, human resources providers, and vendors, this role is essential to HCAN’s day-to-day operations.
 
The Business Operations Manager is a detail-oriented and proactive operations professional who thrives in a small, fast-paced nonprofit environment, values clear communication and collaboration, and welcomes the opportunity to be a reliable thought partner to a dedicated and mission-driven staff. This position does not supervise staff and reports to HCAN’s Deputy Director, who oversees day-to-day activities.

Salary range: $60,000 - $75,000. This is an exempt, Part-time preferred, Full-time available position.
